Service is the AI visibility gap nobody fixes
Sales prompts get the attention. Service prompts are where most dealers are invisible, and it is the cheapest place to win.
In every market we have measured, "where should I service my Ford near Buda" produces lower visibility for more stores than any sales prompt. In one public Austin report, a store with a healthy share of sales mentions held under 8% of service mentions. That is not a bad store. That is a service page built as a form and a photo.
Why service loses
The pages are thin. A typical dealer service page has a scheduling widget, a coupon carousel, and forty words of text. An engine composing an answer has nothing to quote.
The towns are missing. Sales pages mention the metro. Service pages mention nothing. A shopper in Kyle asks about Kyle. The engine finds a competitor whose page says Kyle.
The schema stops at the front door. AutoDealer schema describes the store. Almost nobody publishes AutoRepair or Service schema with hours, services offered, and the areas served.
Service reviews are nowhere. DealerRater and Google separate sales and service reviews. Most dealers push for sales reviews only.
The fix, in an afternoon
1. Write the service page like an answer. "The service department at Smith Ford in Austin is open Monday through Friday 7 to 6 and Saturday 8 to 4, serves Austin, Buda, Kyle, Round Rock, and Cedar Park, offers oil changes, brakes, tires, factory-scheduled maintenance, recall work, and Ford-certified collision referrals, accepts walk-ins for oil changes, and provides loaners for warranty repairs over four hours." Every clause is a fact an engine can lift.
2. Add the schema. AutoRepair as a department of the AutoDealer, with openingHours, areaServed, and the service list.
3. Put it in the llms.txt. One line pointing to the service page, with the towns.
4. Add a service FAQ. Ten questions with FAQ schema: do you take walk-ins, do I need to have bought here, do you service other brands, do you offer pickup, what does a diagnostic cost.
5. Ask for service reviews. Separately, at the cashier, to Google and DealerRater.
What it is worth
Service visibility is the shortest path from invisible to named because the competition is not trying. In our runs a rewritten service page and schema move service mentions within one to two monthly cycles, before any of the harder agent-layer work.
Do engines answer service questions differently than sales questions?
Yes. Google AI Mode answers service prompts most often because it can see indexed service pages. ChatGPT tends to fall back to Yelp and DealerRater when the dealer page is thin.
Should the service page be on a separate domain?
No. Keep it on the store domain so the entity stays whole.
